Brake Tester Servicing & Calibration

Plan ongoing care as part of owning your tester.

DVSA guidance says brake testers should be serviced and calibrated in line with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Build these visits, routine checks and record keeping into your workshop plan. Confirm the requirements for your exact model and use rather than relying on a generic interval.

01 Agree the maintenance schedule

Ask your service provider to confirm the servicing and calibration requirements for your machine, its configuration and the testing scheme in which it is used.

Keep a record of due dates and book ahead. Ask whether relocation, a repair or a suspected measurement problem requires an additional check before further use.

Include expected service, calibration and repair costs in the annual ownership allowance in the savings calculator.

02 Build routine checks into the day

Use the manufacturer’s operator checks and cleaning instructions. DVSA highlights the importance of clean rollers in good condition.

Make it clear who reports damage, unusual noises, control faults or inconsistent readings. Follow the equipment instructions for taking a faulty machine out of use and arranging specialist attention.

Ask for advice before using unfamiliar cleaning products or attempting adjustments.

03 Keep an equipment record

Our suggested equipment file includes the model and serial number, operating instructions, service history, calibration certificates and repair records.

Record software or reference-data updates and keep the relevant supplier details readily available.

Ask your provider what each certificate covers, what follow-up action is required and when the next visit is due. Keep the equipment record separate from individual vehicle brake-test reports so both can be found quickly.

04 Prepare for a support enquiry

Have the model and serial number ready, along with the last service or calibration date and a clear description of the issue.

Note when the problem occurs and any displayed error message. Ask whether the machine should remain out of use until it has been checked.

ACP Services can discuss calibration, servicing, repairs, software support and spare parts. Confirm availability and the scope of work for your machine when booking.
